Young States Interview

We recently caught up with Young States, Georgia (singer/bassist) and talked about music videos, music and other questions below! Enjoy the interview!

1. Who or what inspired you to play the genre that you play?

One of the first bands that got me into this genre was Mallory Knox, so I would say them for sure!

2. You've performed with the likes of New Year's Day, Trashboat, The Gospel Youth and Altered Sky, how did you feel about supporting them?

It was awesome to be able to support those bands! Also nerve racking because those gigs had some good crowds, and the bigger the crowd, the more nervous I get.

3. How did you get the opportunity to support New Year's Day?

I think that was down to our manager! If I remember right NYD wanted a local support for their Norwich show so Jon put us forward for the slot.

4. You're an all female rock band, do you think that make your band stand out more in any way?

Sometimes, but not necessarily for the right reasons. A lot of people look at women in the music industry and assume they’re not as good in the sense of creating something new. They think of about 3 female fronted bands they assume we’re trying to copy and so they give us a listen to see if they’re right. Thankfully we sound good so they end up sticking around haha! Though my point is our likability and musicianship shouldn’t be based on our gender.

5. Who would you like to be endorsed by?

Either Fender or Vans please!

6. What's your favourite song to perform live?

It’s between Tell A Lie, which is off our newest EP, and a new song we haven’t released yet. Tell A Lie is such a vocally challenging song for me and there’s a lot of emotion behind it, so getting to belt it out on stage is so cathartic. Plus it’s just so fun to play!

7. How did you think of your music video ideas?

For our latest music videos we worked with As A Button productions and they came up with main storylines for the videos, they were fantastic to work with and had a great vision of how to relate the songs to different scenarios

8. Who did you work with to create your music videos?

Besides As A Button, we woke with Jay Hiller for our very first video, and with Sitcom Soldiers for our video for Feedback

9. Are you working on a new EP at the moment?

We’re currently on the hush about what’s next so I can’t tell you much!

10. How would you describe your music to others?

Epic-sounding alt-rock with relatable emo lyrics
