Century Thirteen Interview

I recently interviewed Century Thirteen, one of the first bands I seen live when they supported Altered Sky in 2015. I hope you all enjoy my interview with this amazing band.

1. How did you all meet?

Kevin and Lewis used to be in a band together back in 2012- 2013 which ended when the bass player quit. Still wanting to continue writing music they looked for new band members, this time deciding to go for a four-piece instead of a trio. Kevin contacted Scott – the two were friends and had previously worked in the same job together - Kevin knew that Scott was a singer-songwriter and a good guitarist, so invited Scott to jam with them, and they immediately clicked in the studio.

Dale joined shortly afterwards after responding to an advert as the band were still looking for a bassist – and it turned out Dale had actually grown up with the bass player from Kevin and Lewis’s previous band! So in a way things came full circle. The line-up of the band has stayed the same ever since.

2. What made you all decide to become a band?

between the four of us we could go on all day! Music is a huge part of all of our lives that is why we became a band and we aren’t afraid to listen to music that’s completely different from what we play, over the years we have all dreamed of being in a band and writing song we love now we get the chance to enjoy the ride.

3. How did you come up with the band name?

The number thirteen is seen as unlucky by many, and a century is a long period of time, so it’s about feeling like you’re going through a spell of bad luck that never seems to end – if you’ve ever had a bad day or week, imagine having a bad century!

4. How long after the band formed did you perform at your first gig?

5 weeks after but me and the drummer had been in a band for over a year before that,we played our first gig april 10th 2014.

we have all been nervous for different gigs very we use different methods like drinking meditating and eating food.

10. You have an album coming out in a few months, how long have you been working on it for?

like almost 2 years in the making since we started writing these songs but our album is coming out July 13th we are very excited.

11. What's the difference between your new and old material?

The song writing is more indepth, and our recording are better as we had alot of time to make great a record.
